I hate all of that childish "secret trails" downhill bullshit. If you build trails (illegally) in a public place then you can't really complain when they're publicised.

nah pal they arent secet at all, infact well known to the locals who ride them, i wouldnt say it was childish either keeping them low key, if you spent time cutting lines to ride you wouldnt want the possibility of lots of people rocking up to ride them, yes fair enough if people find it then it will be publicised feel free to attempt to ride it.

To be fair i don't think its going to pull the masses turning up on buses to push up, maybe the odd few people but not enough to get worried about and its not as if 'Gwydyr' is a small area to work out where it is Will be sticking to Foel and Llan anyway.

I agree with hippo, I can't stand all this "secret trail" shit. Us mtbers are a friendly lot in general. Those that ride downhill are usually fairly experienced riders, so we're not going to blow out every corner and case every jump and make a mess of the track, or at least not on purpose. And we're a reasonable lot too, "dig to ride" is a fairly sensible way of thinking. Why would you not want others to know about riding spots? Surely we're all in it for the love of riding? So why be selfish and not allow others to know where riding spots are? As Rob said, it's not as if hordes of people are going to go and rip up the trail because someone posted a photo on a small north welsh forum, is it? Cheers for sharing the love with your fellow riders.

theres plenty of downhill tracks in north wales that are at an incredibly high standard with uplifts. who have full permission to dig the tracks and actually want people to enjoy them seems a bit stupid not wanting people to find out about a trail you've put time and effort into digging. would it be a bad thing if more people did ride these trails?

A few members know I have a track on the go so I'm posting from both a rider and builders perspective.
Too many people on a secret track will get it shut down. Llangwyfan/Cwm/Macc Forest. (Macc Forest reoppened under a club but major changes to the track) That's just the tracks you've probably heard of. I traced Cwm down from just one photograph of a fireroad referenced to Google Earth. Ride it but keep it quiet IMO,.

I have been resisting getting involved, but i cant anymore.
There is a reason that DH tracks are kept secret and i'm happy to show you ... So anyone who wants to see why give me a shout, and i'll do you all this deal, if you can ride down one of my tracks (the bar) then i'll happily show you all the rest.

Hughes - Might take you up on that offer when I'm next up in Bangor! I think it's fair that guys who have put all that time and effort into digging a track want to keep it low key as we've all know about how tracks get blocked off by forestry etc. But surely it's not such a bad thing if a rider comes across your track and sticks up a couple of pictures on a forum for local riders to let the few people who actually ride DH on the forum know about it? I'd say the people who might actually go and find and ride the track would be more than happy to help with maintenence etc. Also, Sam1 - Not really any need for such a pointless comment was there? And who even uses "jerk" as an insult anyway?
