The 10th Roughride www.roughride.co.uk is on the 27th of may this year, again sponsored by Torq Fitness. The event is run over the moors. At that time of year the moors of east Radnorshire on the Herefordshire border are at their best with the Hawthorn and Blackthorn fully out in bloom and the bracken still to grow. The event has the least percentage of roads of any comparable event in England and Wales, and just a mile of forestry track. There's no pressure to compete, just to complete the route is enough. Most riders take between four and seven hours and decide whether they want to do the extra long route half way round.. The area is remote but well marshalled and due to a good relationship with landowners this is a once a year chance to ride the many Drover and Packhorse routes that didn't make it onto the modern bridleway system. Have a look at the website Youtube links to get a flavour of the event, and speaking of flavours, there's plenty of pubs with good local beers and ciders. Included in the entry fee is, free camping, after event meal and T shirt. Many riders stay sunday night and rehydrate round town.

Loved this last year despite absolutely torrential rain! I intend to go again this time.
It's worth doing for the catering and the local beer, fantastic.
