And there was me blissfully unaware for the last 12 years that I couldn't ride roadie pedals with MTB cleats and/or MTB pedals with roadie cleats!
It's amazing what you can do when you don't know you can't do it!

Am I correct in thinking that roadie pedals have the mechanism on the shoe and the cleat on the pedal, the other way around from MTB pedals? Anyone know why this is??

Both have cleats on the shoes, and pedals on the cranks. They are just different designs. I believe the roadie type (SPD-SL) are slightly bigger which are suppose to allow you to get more power down. Many people use SPDs on both their bikes to save on the expense of two lots of shoes. |
