New MBNW Flickr group

Seeing something another website has done recently got me thinking about a way we could all pool our best North Wales Photos in one place for people to enjoy.

Posting photos in ride reports on the forum is excellent and these reports are enjoyed by all that read them but the problem is the after time the post disappear down the pages and more often than not the excellent pictures that they contain will never be viewed again.

My idea for anyone who fancys trying it out was to create an mbnw Flickr group to share all our fantastic North Wales adventure pics in one easily accessible public resource with the aim of creating a area for people to showcase there snaps for others to enjoy.

Im not talking about uploading massive batches of pics of rides but just uploading them special snaps that came out really well and you are particularly proud off

If anyone fancys helping us out to see if this works then this is what to do -

1. Open a personal flickr account
2. upload your pics to your own account
3. Go to - www.flickr.com/groups/mbnw/ and become a member of the mbnw group
4. Pick the snaps from your personal account and share them with the mbnw group
5. Don't forget to include a description of your picture and also if you wish you can include your name, email, website etc etc


Pictures don't have to be fully bike related, but try and keep them North Wales related

If this works then I'm going to look in to a way of sharing them on the mbnw website which will hopefully get them even more views

Please also let me know your thoughts or any problems or limitations that you come across

Ps I've added just a couple of test pics to see how it all works and it actually less complicated than you think but I'm just crap at explaining things ;D

I can do the sharing out mate from flickr to website, got an app for that from wordpress, I'll give you a bell in the week and get it sorted out ;-)

Sounds a good idea. Only yesterday I was trawling through pages in the Rides section looking for a certain picture

Will have to have a think what pictures I have worthy of such a page ;D

Im also looking about upgrading to an unlimited account so we can create albums for all the forum rides, events and races.

Just a thought but Google+ has albums and now allows groups rather than just individuals.

I think a flickr pro account works out about £12 a year (approx) so surely dipping into into the forum rides funding one particular month would take care of that hurdle....providing no one had any objections of course. I also agree about your point of being selective and not just uploading a job lot of pictures of different individuals riding through the same frame so keep it special and show off the best of what we have to offer...that's we as a group and not me pretending to be Welsh (you wont find a framed photo of Max Boyce on my fireplace)

Don't forget that if you start paying the flickr fee, in order to keep the growing collection of photos on it you'll be stuck paying that fee every year for as long as you want the photos on there. Stop paying and they'll restrict the account. £12 ($25) doesn't sound a lot until you relise that you'll be paying that (maybe) for the next 10 years..... 20 years.... and then you'll be stuck.

I know photobucket is of less high profile, as is google+ etc. but at least they're free and you wont be the stuck paying a long standing fee.
