Went for a wet and slushy ride around Llandgela this afternoon. The trails were wet, muddy, potholed and pretty grim (it even started sleeting for a short time) so went for a bit of off piste after the diversion on the red to get me back up to post 42 so I could ride home over the moor. The boardwalk across the moor has always been one of my favourite routes. It's not too skinny to be difficult, but the ramps up and down are great fun in either direction. The trail is gravelly so even when wet it's easy to ride on. The trail in better times: So imagine my horror to find that someone has been doing repairs to the bridleway. Not only have they sanitised it by burying the ends of the 3 boardwalks nearest the forest, they've rebuilt the path using MUD turning the place into a swamp Part of the path has also been widened from singletrack to about 1m wide. The boggy sections of path and the broken sleepers which really needed repairs have not been touched. The best bit of trail up there now totally ruined

That's not good news for the Pie Run Pete I suspect they might be trying to discourage MTB's from using it

Although the boards and the descent through Llandegla are a bridleway on the map, so no reason for it really

Hopefully it will all wash away over time, but might take a few years with the amount they have put down.
Maybe it's time to get a move on with Lou's idea of getting a list together of places that we don't want people to touch.

That is not good news. It was a great trail. After the previous upgrade that gravelled a few bit and put the sandpaper sgtuff on the planks the trail was spot on, and had been for many, many years. can't see why anyone thought there was any need to do 'improvements' to this trail, there was no need.
Thistle, your idea is good. After Walna Scar disappeared beneath another layer of sanitisation it was pointed out on the STW forum that 'rights of way' officers have to act on the correspondance they receive. Generally it is only the 'oh my god, the state of the trail was awful' people who write in. If a few of them write in and no one else then they have to respond to it. However, if they are receiving mail from people saying they love the state the trail is in there is evidence to leave it alone.

I've already sent denbighshire cc an email asking what's going on but have not had a reply yet. I can't see how the work helps anyone, even walkers as it's now gloop

Rode it today on the forum ride and didn't seem too bad. Bit boggy in places, but no worse than anywhere else up there and seems to be bedding in nicely. Maybe it was just because it was the snowy weather and part frozen last weekend? The start of a couple of the boards is smoothed out now, but I'm sure they'll erode away soon enough, and I'm not really sure I actually used to enjoy them anyway, used to fail to get up them at least half the time

used to fail to get up them at least half the time That's the problem. You were riding them uphill rather than downhill which would make them into drops ;D The material they'd used was clayey muddy stuff rather than stoney, gravelly stuff so hopefully it will erode away.

I rode them not so long ago and the 'sanitised' sections looked worse than they were. I took one look and started pushing then realised it was ridable. Bit heavy going but hope its improved with use. I was never that keen on the sprint/step up onto the boards but again never done it downhill.
Did the loop down the 'scree' yesterday and although bit muddy at the bottom before rejoining the road it was great up there.
