Has anyone on here or do you know anyone that has had an accident on the boardwalk on loop 2 at Penmachno?
If so please let me know so I can pass it on to MBM who run the penmachno Trail.
I recently had an email off Sion Parry who owns Beics betws and who is now a committee member of MBM asking me about this. With the old committee resining they must have appointed a new one to try a fresh approach to keeping the Penmachno trail open.
I will try and find out more.

Martin,
When i did it i never found the boardwalk a problem even though it was wet, the only problem was some of the wood was broken in places.

I rode loop1 & 2 through the winter and never had any problems even with ice on it. Only problem I can see is that bloody tree which hangs over half way across on loop 2

Don't think we should resort to "dumbing down" the trail though, Penmachno's great because it's actually difficult (for a trail centre.). I'd say the big slimy slabs on loop 2 are more of a hazzard. Matt did break his arm on the wood but he'd probably be the first to admit it was a simple accident (reckon he was probably on a 3kg carbon bike with skinny tyres anyway knowing him.).

Only been on loop 2 once and was not keen at all a bit boring 4 me no technical climbing or any fast desents so for a anybody to have any sort of crash on this loop he must of had an engine on his bike .

i did penmachno on friday and didn't find any problems with the boardwalk, was taking it a bit easy though. I think its a great trail, don't think they should start adding wire mesh.

I heard recently that many trail centres are discouraged from putting down chicken wire on the boardwalk sections as it does not really proved very good grip and falling on it is like taking a tumble on a cheese grater so not only does it give you broken bones from the fall but rips your skin apart. Would be good to see them use the grippy tape they put on skateboards, the stuff thats like a fine sandpaper but gives loads of grip albiet very expensive.
