i fancy a go at cyclecross, but dont really want to go out and buy another new bike. My FS isnt suitable, but i have a new hardtail specialised MB (it was bought for my husband who rode it once, now gathering dust If i take off the mudguards and change the handle bars, do you think it would do for now ?? Just wondered if there are any rules to this ?

I think some competitions require you to have a 'proper' cyclocross bikes but others aren't too fussed. I believe the north wales cyclocross competitions let you ride any sort of bike (I was going to have a go this winter but struggled to find details of it).
A hardtail sounds ideal.

I did a couple of the north wales cyclocross series last year on my Hardtail, they were bloody brilliant. I reckon if it was dry you'd be loads quicker on a proper cx bike, but the ones I did were mudfests so the ht was grand. Recommend.
