After a dealay in getting to the trail head we finally got to Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre with the sun shining we got ourselves sorted and set off to do Whites Level, the first climb was a bu99er quite techy and when you have an ear infection its extra hard, whe we finally got to the top we set off to find the first fun downhill section but whoever was in fron t missed the sign and we foundourselves following the skyline route, however one of our group got a puncture so we decided to double back and find the White level trail again. Which is pretty good and full of cheeky suprizes, especially a twisty boardwalk section. Anyway Dave decided to push it a bit to hard on one section and hit a tree that was pretty much the end of his ride, he nursed his very sore shoulder to the end of the ride. As a result we decided to bin going downd to the trail head at afan and taking in another route. On Sunday after a very late nightout in Cardiff we arrive at Cwmcarn to do the Twrch Trail on a glorious very hot day, the initial climb was another long one that we made easier by going up the tarmac road and headed of on the first section at the top which came out to the Freeride area after messsing about a bit we shot down the first single track section which was quite narrow sandy and with loads of loose pebbles I was suffering a bit with a sore eye and ear infection (excuses) so with impared vision and sore ear I soldiered on with what turned out to be a nice flowing trail that we prefered to the previous days ride. The last section was steep in sections especially right at the end when my adjustable seatpost decided to twist my sadddle to the side and disrupte my descent spoiling it for me. Here are some pics. Glyncorrwg is a brilliant set-up with cheap camping on-site & full facilities.
Cafe serving lovely home-made food in large portions and quality chilled beer (important) late into the night.
Skyline Cycle shop which is very very good. The guys there built me a new wheel and rescued what could've been a dismal weekend when i trashed my back wheel on the first day, even though they were already flat-out with repairs. Big-up to them, top guys.
The trails are technical, challenging, varied and enjoyable and you also have the ones at Afan literally a few miles down the road.
Can't wait for another weekend down there, count me in for next year too!
(Tip: If camping, unless you sleep with the tent porch open, try not to share with people who are partial to flapjacks and Stella)

We are planning a return visit, they guys that were with me prefered CwmCarn I'm undecided as I would like to try more trails at Afan as we only did the White Level and theres a few more that need to be ridden. Don't think Afan is as good as CYB though especially when CYB do their Freeride area and finish the new sections their building.

THE WALL trail at Afan is one of the longest down hill sections I've ever been on a grin factor of 10.10 :-) :-) . The only down side to this trail is that the first 1/3 of the ride is fire road. Its hard to compare CyB to Glyncorrwg as that I hate the ending at CyB the last single track section is too rough and does not flow and give you the final Grin factor that would make CyB the best Trail centre in uk. P.S I'm not saying CyB is crap all I'm saying is that with a little tweek it could be the BEST.......................
