Just got back from a ride in Coed Y Garnedd a small forest SW of beddgelert. Did the bikefax route (19) there which was recommended by Dayffd Davies in the book found that the first few sections were great till i came to the blue section of the trail when it almost became unrideable spent about an hour off the bike on trails that didnt look like it was possible to ride. Anyone ridden there before?
Saw some markers which looked like somebody planning new sections, anyone know of any developments going on?

In what way were they un rideable (to boggy etc)
Not much cop if the route is in bie fax but is'nt rideable, I keep meaning to buy the bike fax book but ive been hearing bad things about it off people, ive been told that some of the routes are very hard to follow, a route being unridable dont sound good either.

That is one my local rides during the summer time as I can get there on the back roads from my house in Blaenau. It does a nice 25km spin for me in total.
The first single track after the big climb is do-able with care. The second singletrack, after the second big climb, is very wet and you are better sticking to the forestry road which leads you up to Llyn Garnedd and then rejoin the route as it's shown in the book.
There is talk of building a new track there as part of the Blaenau redevelopment (similar to Penmachno redevelopment) - there are other tracks planned as well. Maybe one of the trail builders have been out looking at possible routes? Don't think the new route is exactly the same as the one shown in Bike-fax.
If you go back a few years the route was all ridable, but due to lack of use and no maintenance that wet section has deteriorated quite badly.
Do you live locally?

Oggy, Regarding the bike fax i think its a great guide to the trails round here I have only come across unridable sections once before and have done all the rides in the book (bar 1 or 2). That was on a bit between penmachno and dolwydellan in the big 3 route. I dont think the maps are great in them would prefer it if they just used an 1:50,000 OS Map as that would make nav a bit easier but you can normally work it out from the discription and a bit of initative.
Dyls Yeah would agree with you on that. Ended up in an epic ride/walk. The place has loads of potential though really liked that first piece of singletrack just wish it wasnt so slippy. I take it its alot better in summer. Saw a few markers running off into the woods which would suggest trail planning. Hope something does happen as the place is great would be awesome to have another trail centre so close. I live in bangor so was a bit of a drive down but wasnt really worth it in the end.

Definitely not worth driving there, it's only handy for me as I can just cycle there without the hassle of putting the bike in the car after work on summer nights.
I can imagine the roots/mud on the first single track being very slippy now.
