Im visiting in 2 weeks ;D staying near betws y coed. Ive been buying lots lately and the misses is starting to moan so my plan is use cash for a while so there is no paper trail  My trip to wales is a good opportunity for secret spending  Any well stocked mtb shops local to the area? Maybe looking for x9 rear mech, spd shoes/pedals, tyres, shorts, base layer, grips, seat, helmet. ok better stop now im cant spend that much  DROPPER POST  |

Sounds like you've got it all figured out ;D If you're staying in Betws Y Coed, then your nearest shop would be 1868 Racing which is based in Llanrwst, which incidently is where The Marin trail starts. However, as this is a small independent shop it may well be worth ringing Martin up first to make sure he has what you want in stock. I'm sure if you give him your 'shopping list' he could order the stuff he doesn't stock. Also, let him know we recommended him to you, and you should get 10% discount The only other shop I can think of is Tweeks Cycles, however, the nearest shop would be the Wrexham branch about a half hours drive form Betws. This is part of the Deemon Tweeks group of companies and has a wide rage of gear in stock. Again, you could get 10% discount if you mention us They are the only two shops I can think of at the moment. Someone else may be along with other recommendations, but at least you have something to start on. Enjoy your trip  |

Ye as Tarbo said Tweeks' is good. You'll drive past Wrexham and Chester on your way to betwys. Alf Jones, Wrexham, is by far the largest store in this area but unfortunately you'll need to haggle - they do say they will price match though.

There is a bike shop in Betws on the main road, never bought anything from them though.
I've not been to West End Cycles' new shop in Llandudno Junction but it looked pretty big.

Didn't they get taken over by JJB sports or some such and then start selling Sh*te? Planet Fear was the one I was thinking of, I think they took over/merged with Litespeed who were up at the top? I went in to the new shop once for a tyre, it was about £50 so went straight back out ;D Googling 'bike shop betws y coed' gave Sports Direct as the second result  |
