Has anyone had any experience with this GPS unit before i go spending hard earned cash? Is it any good or is there a better one available for similar money, What i really want from it is a view of the land/terrain and basically a pointer showing me where i am. www.gooutdoors.co.uk/garmin-etrex-20-gps-p191377

Think i may have just changed my own mind. Just downloaded the software for downloading the maps onto the unit and its pretty dam hard to work and just a faf. Think i will probably stick to my maps.
How do i work out where i am when i cant see the land? Usually i refer map to land and work out where i am in relation to what i can see around me but as most of you know that can change in a matter of minutes. So what to do when that fog has covered the land?

Satmap is the other option if you're after a GPS with full OS maps www.satmap.co.ukI have one which is great for walking and biking in the wilds. Can buy a bike mount too. The SatSync software that comes with it is easy enough to use but depends what you want to do with it I suppose.

Just had a play around with some of the top Garmin GPS units, but still prefer my SATMAP, Apart from the uploading, which i find a pain,

Viewranger app if you've got a smartphone. £10 gets you north wales & NW england at 1:50 000 good to use as a location checker rather than following a route though as it eats the battery a bit - mine died after 3.5hrs. will be using it with a tracklogs printout & just checking when needed for those lost/not sure moments.

I use track logs and print out my route/map.
Sat map seems to be really expensive though?

bit of a delayed reply but i love my 800. its difficult to follow a twisty route because you have to keep looking at it but i wouldnt be without it. makes a massive difference and means i can ride in places i dont know without missing good stuff so easily. still take my os maps to plan but garmin all the way. never tried free maps, ive got the trail sd card
