i am getting back into biking and wondered what tools people take out with them.and more to the point, what have you actually used? loads of multitools in the shops but i have looked over my new bike and reckon 3 allen keys, tyre levers and a small screwdirver will cope with most things. anyone think it's worth carrying a chain tool and spare link? any comments welcome

You can get a detachable chaintool as well as a lever and screwdriver on a multitool. They usually cost around £15/£20. I also carry a chainlink.

From my experience I'm happy taking the following on any jaunt into the mountains, and if the bike is still knakered then it'll only be an hour or so of walking to civilisation:
Multitool (Topeak Alien) spare chain links zip ties insulation tape
