I'm just thinking outloud on this one and it's not a pop at anyone...... but
I don't know if its just me thinking this but it seems the forum has gone awfully quiet recently There's not many rides in the 'plan yer rides' and what there is, is done by the usual crowd. Its a great forum and I'd hate to see it fall by the wayside. I've had many a decent ride and met some great folk on here but it just seems to be a bit quiet. I understand people have other things going on and biking does not always happen but there's over 1000 members signed up on the forum, so where are they? It just seems to be the 'usual' crowd posting up and that seems to be getting smaller The suns shining and we should all be on our bikes

With you on that Jeff, i've thought the same recently although i've been guilty of doing my own thing rather than posting up on here. The few rides i've had lately in the hot dry conditions have been absolutely amazing- which reminds me, I still haven't done your Carneddau epic....!

mmm.. sorry, I am one of the culprits- I know i used to put at least 2 rides a month on here and go on practically everyone elses, but I have been doing the other thing -and now feel like I would be hopeless (even more so than I was) on a mtb. must get some practice!!

I still think that other social networks such as Facebook etc are killing this place. The craic that we had 3 to 4 years ago has disappeared, as have the members of that era!!

I wish I knew some natural routes I would happily post up but I'm about as competent with a map as I am with my Mtb put the two together would only spell disaster in capital letters I was only saying the other week that things are quiet which is a real shame. I happily post up to say I'm riding but it's always trail centres as I don't know anything else Joining the forum was one of the best things I ever done. I've made great friends whilst doing something that I love doing and now jake is joining me its even better.

As I've splashed out on a GoPro I need a model to follow and film this Saturday so open to suggestions, or will even give some :-)
But remember I've got one of my excellent routes planned for the end of the month that could do with a few more willing victims riders

Yes it does seem a bit quiet, although a few months back in Feb I had 30 or 40 people on the forum ride I led. Bit strange.

At the end of the day this is an open forum and its up to every member to make the most of it, the admins do their best to make sure that there is a forum ride each month which can be tricky, as we are all involved in competition espically this time of year. Trying to fit meaningful training, gym sessions, family life, work (in that particular order ) and then fitting social rides in as well is near on impossible. As more members are also riding on the road we are trying to accommodate this, and are also looking to start up the beginners rides again soon (once the sportives have subsided) As you say Jeff there are 1000 registered members but always the usual hardcore posting up rides, I just think that everyone dips in and out of the forum as their lives allow, it will bounce back again im sure but it will take everyone to make the effort. Im as guilty as everyone about not posting rides but have a tight schedule until September, and every ride out needs to count, not very social im afraid.

I think the reports of the death of this forum are a bit premature. All groups have ups and downs, but usually only fail if there is not a hard core keeping it going. We are really lucky that we have that small number of people who keep it moving along, and I know the rest of us really appreciate your efforts.
I guess the strange thing is that there is less happening now the weather has improved. But I think this is probably because the good weather means there is more of everything happening. In particular, anyone with a family is encouraged (forced) to join in with stuff that means we are not available for riding. It is a good reminder to me that poor weather should never put me off getting out there because if you wait for it to improve you will probably miss out on getting anything done.
I would just like to say thanks to the admins and other hard core members who look after the rest of us. As Bird says, this forum is one of the best things I have ever got involved in.

Forum Tarmac Ride??? Cancelled due to lack of interest??? WTF!!! I thought it would've been the most popular forum ride on here. It's been a while since I've been on here, lost interest with the place and the lack of input from members who just seemed to lurk without getting involved with threads or just hijacked theads to rant on about how great a stretch of tarmac is Bumped into Sandi last week on one of my rides and got me thinking about how great this forum was a few years back and how I miss those days on the mountains with the old hardcore gang, taking it in turns to lead some fantastic routes from casual rides to gruelling big mountain routes, great times indeed, then 2012 happened and it seemed most of the members on here were either too afraid to get muddy in the foul weather we endured and stopped riding off road or had other life issues like family ties, work etc (which obviously can't be helped). Don't think the forum ever picked up after that and the effort put into organising a ride became a chore with an ever decreasing interest. Do hope this place picks up, it needs members who've never led a ride to have a go, I know it can be daunting at first but as long as people actually turn up there's usually help available, Some of you will remember Tarbo posting a thread up on those lines last year, unfortunately no new leaders volunteered and it was left up to the usual (decreasing) hardcore members to do all the work. Like has been said in the above posts, it's an open forum, no one is forced into anything but if you all sit back and don't get involved it will become stagnant. For me that's what the forum became, boring and very uninteresting, no fun, people more interested in either road riding and/or beating strava results in an obsessed manner than doing what matters on a mountain bike forum - "Mountain Biking!". I'm surprised this thread doesn't have more input than there is.

I'm with you on all that Gus, although i do enjoy the road biking as its a change and i've seen even more of this lovely country this last 12 months than i would have thought possible from a bike. (including the inside of an ambulance) The leading of rides almost every other weekend did become a bit of a headache as the routes I know are not infinate and I was beginning to feel that people may be becoming bored of them. And at the end of the day we ride to make ourselves happy not everyone else that can't be bothered to look at a map and sort something out! a few of us are off on a few days riding at the end of this month but after that I am planning on dusting down the trusty old mtb and posting up my usual mismash of getting lost and falling into bog type rides again. what we do need is the banter back on here - it used to be hilarious !

Gus get with the Times, to shoot road riding down just because it doesnt interest you is very narrow minded, surely road riding should be encouraged as a lot of members do multiple forms of cycling so why shouldnt we use this place to arrange them to, surely by bringing some diversity in we should open up the forum to more people.
Having set this forum up some 5 or 6 years ago ive seen new groups come and go and the forum have various levels of activity, some times it busy and sometimes it go's quiet for a bit, that just how it is and im confident it will pick up again . Historically the forum does go quieter in the summer and tends to pick up again in winter, i carnt really see what all the fuss is about here.

I also don't understand why a ride gets cancelled due to lack of interest when people have put their names down If the forum survives great but if not the trails will still be there
