Probably a question more suited to the likes of FTASB or jlr59:
I'm trying to find a bit of infomation on the trails round Macclesfield. I remember picking up a leaflet at the Bike Factory for a trail called something like Mud N Gears, but cant seem to find anything about it on the net.
Can anyone help?

Would it be the 'Grit your gears' trail?

I saw Grit Your Gears mentioned while searching for it, but it doesn't sound familiar.
Thinking about it, i think it was followed by a number. Mud N Gears 2 or something like that

I've also found a reference to a grit & gears II - have I persuaded you yet?

Never really thought about going that way for trails, but there must be some awesome riding up there given the terrain between there and Buxton etc

did a ride there last year, from Macc. forest, past the cat & fiddle. bit short really, 20km, 650m climb, but didn't know the area. couple of decent rocky descents. still took a while though due to bad conditions! since found this on flat tyres - bit longer, we went straight from "4" to "7" www.flattyresmtbroutes.com/MaccForestClassic.htmlcan send tracklogs if you want.

Sikora, you are probably after grit and gears 2, this starts from teggs nose above macc, you could also try www.bikemaps.co.uk who do maps for all the macc and derbyshire area. Mikebike and myself use these as most of our riding is done round macc, marple and hayfield. Have a look at flattyres hayfield ride and macc.

Just of note, due to the difference between the type of rock/ground between Wales and derbyshire, as I and countless others have found out to our cost, a wet derbyshire ride can be a bike wrecker as the ground turns to a grinding paste. The grit and gears rides used to have a cracking downhill in it at Cumberland brook, 1 of those where you would prefer to come down it on someone elses bike instead of ruining your own, but me and mike came down it a couple of months ago and all the big rocks had been taken out and it was fairly smooth.

Anything you'd recommend up there? Not after an epic, just a good ride

Done both of the Macc rides off flattyres routes, both good rides, a bit of tarmac and plenty of off road. You could always try www.romanlakes.co.uk at Marple if you wanted to travel a bit further, we start most of our rides from here, the place itself is a bit like a bombsite but the food is edible and pretty cheap and the riding round there is good.

Just to echo jlr59 there is some cracking natural riding round that area, technical climbs and rocky descents as well as lung busting climbs. Follow the links mentioned above and you won't go far wrong. Enjoy

This is a pic from our last ride from Marple, there is plenty of this type of terrain around there, going up or down
