Why did you go for 2.4 for XC riding?
I'd say 2.0/2.1 is plentifult for cross country, for low rolling resistance I'd go for Crossmarks, Racing Ralph, Speedkings, or for slightly more grip but slightly more drag I'd get high rollers, nobby nics, mountainkings.
On my XC hardtail I have 2.1 Crossmarks, reasonable grip and rolls really well, even on tarmac. On my bigger travel bike I use 2.25 Nobby Nics. More grip in the technical stuff but slightly more drag than the crossmarks. You especially notice the more drag whilst cycling on tarmac.

I didn't go for them I was given them by a friend well was a friend;) only joking! I was stuck for which tyres to put on my enduro? The Nobby Nics sound good but so do the Maxxis decisions decisions??

i use both taffy.
i use the lust ust highrollers 2.35 on my enduro, which i ride around trail centres etc. i really rate them. go for the lust version though as the others are heavier and a pain on the ups. i use 2.5 minions on my dh bike. they are superb but no way i d stick em on anything that id have to pedal far. 2.35 are available but they are a bit tougher than the lust minions on the up but apparently grip to anything. 3 of my mates use them on xc bikes. i m half tempted to try them this winter, but i won t be buying a pair yet as i really can t fault the highrollers as they grip well and aren t bad at all at rolling. ill try theirs out just to see what they r like ;p two out of the three who use minions were on nobby nicks, and said the minions were far better on the downs, but were a bit of a struggle on the ups.

Just seen some maxxis High Rollers 2.35 60a for £20 are these worth a go?? If they're the ones in Cheshire Oaks Cycles then they are the wire bead (non folding) version - i was in there at the weekend looking for tyres myself. I ended up with a Kenda Nevegal and Blue Groove 2.35 folding for each end - got to try them out at each end now to decide what works best. The pair was under £50 anyway I did buy them for the more rugged rides around the Clwyds / Peak District etc and have lighter weight tyres also.

i haven t though once since i bought them that they are too much on the climbs around any of the trail centres or any where else ive ridden on them. i gave them some proper abuse in the quarry in llanberis which eats tyres and they survived and performed really well. i tried the wire ones a couple of years back before the lust came out and foun they were unbearable on the marin. but the lust are great. i dont find these to drag no where near as i thought they would. i was very surprised.
