Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much it will cost me to get my brake hoses trimmed to size and rebled at a bike shop? I'm too lazy to ring one up

I suppose my "Local" bike shop is Bikes Direst in Holywell, although they can be pretty expensive - last time i was there they charged me 4 quid to losen my pedals I don't trust them either really. They didn't do a good job when i took my old bike in for a service. I suppose my other local bike shops are Edge Cycleworks, or The bike Factory, both in Chester. The Bike Factory have actually got my bike at the moment for its 1st service, but i've no past experiance of their work.

My experience of The Bike Factory has told me they're not too cheap. Went up there to look at bikes and they weren't too hot on any deals. Everything seemed to be pretty much RRP. Don't know about labour charges though. If it's any help, as a comparison, I got told my lbs in Wrexham would charge about £15 to replace my forks.

Dpends who you speak to in The Bike Factory. Some of the older guys are more inclined to offer a deal. I managed to get either $120 of accesories free, or $80 knocked off the RRP when i bought my Rockhopper Pro from there

I'd love to have a go at doing it myself, but it would cost me a fair bit to buy the tools, hose cutters, bleed kit, etc. Something i cant really do the same month as buying the brakes.
I had thought of running them for a month on extra long cables, but i hear of people having to remove a good foot of hose

Ya never no they may come with hoses that arent to long, but i suppose u will only be able to tell once u get the brakes. Are u still going for the juicy carbons? Where are you getting them from? I know what u mean about the tools, decent tools are very expensive and crappy cheap ones just dont cut the mustard. I always try to cut cables with crap pliers and always end up making a right mess of it when will i learn

Both the Bike Factory and Edge Cycleworks are quoting $35-$40. Personally think thats mightily expensive for what the work entails.
Kind of putting me off buying the brakes to be honest with you

That does seem a bit steep.

That is steep. Just a thought, can you not measure the length of your current hoses and ask merlin to cut your new ones to size for you before sending them? they may even do it for free, or a very reduced fee, worth asking??
