scrappy123 --- wonder whether the comfortableness doing stand up peddling is because our bodies are a different shape from guys...I would be interested to see how a guys technique were to change over the space of a month, if he wore a bra with some bags of flour in? Anyone up for the challenge? lol...seriously, I am interested hehe....movement. ;D now that would be interesting there is nothing worse than doing a nice jump and having your airbags go off ;D Good sports bra is a must ;D ;D Don't laugh lads, but have any of you ever had nipple rash from biking ? Use vasaline on long trips now, works a treat

Yeah, I get that, I think I might just secretly have an acceptance problem.......each gear I go down feels like a painful reminder of how overweight I am You'll be fine, just ride next to Rallybiker, you won't look out of place at all I sometimes play the dumbo movie of the train in my head when I am going up hills. "I think I can I think I can I think I can"...."I thought I could I thought I could I thought I COULD!!" ;D hehehe...do you guys play any things or thougts to yourself? On Sunday's ride up Snowdon, to help us get to the top and keep our minds off the pain, we just followed the girl in the Daisy Dukes and had loads of thoughts ;D Unfortunately though, we couldn't play with anything as we were in a public place

Just had my second go! IT BURNS!!! Stuffed up twice and decided to go back down and start again, because I had hardly gotten anywhere. The chain came off twice. First time was a random, second was my fault. Occasionally the chain comes off when I switch from 3/7 to 2/6, any explanations? Anything I can do? Its annoying because I am just creating my flow up the hill, it happened once on Monday too! Went into lower gears much sooner this time, switched from 3/7 to 2/6 virtually as soon as I got to the hill, went down to 2/5 and powered the first turn, then sat back and peddled away, went down to 2/4 and peddled away, needed to stop at the first lamp post half way up. Had a breather and got going again, but the bike didnt like to move...probably should have powered it to get it going it bit more (maybe I didnt because I was too tired, cant remember). The postives: - I got out there!
- I followed through with my plans!
- I stopped much later than Monday, my first stop was at the first lampost on the hill.
- The second stop was not from lack of will, but rather the bike didnt have enough momentom, perhaps should have gone down another gear?
Things I need to work on: - I still stopped twice, although it was further up, and the two stops were much more close together, perhaps need to shift down yet another gear.
- I was focusing very much on being accepting of using the lower gears and realised that I really have been neglecting them. I have been living in a fantasy of 3/7 to 2/6 for far to long and need to make friends with the other guys hey!
I'm going to leave it now till Friday. @scrappy --- That is a superb tip!!! Tarbo --- Thanks Tarbo, yes, I feel ok about the group rides now because I know that no matter how I do you lot are a lovely bunch!...I am just really excited to be coming along, out of place or not, its all good! What, like this? Stick this one in ya pants and stroke it! jk jk xxx

The key to gettting up any hill is rythym, without it you'll fail. Get in the zone (mentally) and plod on up the hill. If you try too much on the lower slopes then you'll be too fooked for the top. scaredycat- a sense of humour at 6 in the morning .....................................you'll fit in fine

I am very boring irl. I think the cycling is going to my head...I was going to start a thread in the wounds section about how I got stung by a stinging nettle but thought better of it...you have to draw a line somewhere hehe Right! shower and work!

Occasionally the chain comes off when I switch from 3/7 to 2/6, any explanations? Anything I can do? Shouldn't come off if you're shifting onto the middle ring at the front and in the middle of the cassette. I think there might be a bike related problem you can put some blame onto there Do you shift from 3/7 straight to 2/6? Or do you go 3/7 > 2/7 > 2/6? Personally I would shift onto the middle at the front just before the hill starts to slow you down, then work your way up through the rear cogs as needed.

Thanks for this too st, I might pause before my next effort to gather myself mentally. Its funny, all last night before sleep I was playing the hill and what I was going to do in my head, but it left me when I got down there this morning. But I still improved from yesterday I think. Its difficult because there is a steep bit right at the beginning, which leads to a slightly less steep bit, but is still steep....so you have to max it there, but you lose it because of the first steep bit. Practice Practice Practice hey. I might give it a couple of goes on Friday...push the boat out lol thistle --- Dya know, I've suspected for a while there might be something wrong with it, and even got someone to look at it, but I think they assumed I didnt know what I was talking about and didnt seem to investigate, but merely flashed it over and told me it was fine....hummm.. Is there anyone here who might check it out for me?...I've lived with it for long enough, perhaps I can wait until the group ride and there will be someone that could look at it (if they wouldnt mind) then? If memory serves me correctly, I think I usually shift straight...but, I think I might instinctively change the front ones before the back ones occasionally. Thanks for the advice though thistle, this is going to really help me hon my skills hey! I'm going to mindfully switch the front cogs a fraction before the back ones next time I try. See what happens aye.

Shifting front or rear first is just personal preference. I think the important thing is not to do both at the same time if you are having chain issues ;D

Hi everyone, I decided to make it my mission to be able to cycle up Glanrafon hill (the one where student union used to be going up to morrisons) I I found when I lived in Bangor that spending several hours is student union that has now gone meant I found it just as hard to get up that hill. I found making the hill less steep by walking from side to side across the road made it much easier though slightly longer.
