Me and Sikora did Cannock Chase this morning. Excellent ride and the rain stayed away until we got back to the car. Excellent ride with some good twisting downhills, where you can get a little bit of speed up. Here's some piccies: A sign post! Sikora interested in...a tree? A man-made berm!!! You won't get me doing it when they've finished it. Sikora having a moment of philosophical contemplation..."Shall I have the sausage roll or the cheese pastie?" Contemplating the next downhill ...and finally, the best of all, an action shot of Sikora

It's by the start of the M6 toll. South of Stafford. Takes about 80 mins from Wrexham, but only coz it's sh1t 'A' roads.
The trail's only about 11km but could easily do it twice if needed. Me and Sikora actually did one DH section twice (in fact it's the one in the "Action" shot)

Heres my pics. I wanted to take more, but i got rather selfish in the end and just enjoyed the flow of the trails in the end. Loads of twisty single track through the trees, while not being too technical for novice riders. On par with Llandegla Red really - in both difficulty and length. Took us about 1 3/4 hours with several stops and 2 runs on the downhilly bit. Very, very sandy though. Looks like they've just dumped a load of sand on top of damaged parts of the trail. Could feel it between the brake pads and rotors. They're also tree felling certain areas at the moment and have put up a few Diversion signs......... without any actual diversions. People had trampled down the plastic barrier fencing and carried on your made their own route, which is pretty poor of the FC if you ask me One thing we noticed was the lack of killer climb at the beginning of the trails, which was a bonus really. In fact, there was only one or two fire road climbs i can remember. They've managed to disguise the climbs gradually into certain singletrack sections. Looks like its a good trail, I will have to get down there with you, how far is it from yours sikora?[/quote Its a good 2 hour drive from mine. For anyone heading down, look for Birches Valley Forest Centre just off the A460. Its a good trail, but don't expect too much from it - its certainly no CYB.

Gutted i couldn't make this one boys I left work about 1330 and thought about giving Sikora a buzz to see how you got on, but quickly changed my mind cos he'd only gloat ;D It's not that far away from me but i've never got round to going riding there. The pics look good, certainly good enough to give it a go. Do you have to travel far after you get off the M6?

We didn't touch the M6. It was A41 (Whithurch road) then A5 through to Cannock. Then picked up the A460 for about 3 miles and there it is, more or less. If you use the M6 coming from Crewe, I take it you'd prob get on at the A500 wouldn't you? If so not far down for you. You come off at the last junction before getting onto the Toll road. That's the A5, which you're on for about 2 miles then onto the A460.
Piece of urine! ;D

Yeah, i'd get on the M6 at J16 and then get off at J11 (i think that's the right one), shouldn't take too long. Give me a shout next time you're planning on going down there

THere is a certain amount of local knowledge that comes into play when using this trail as it can get very busy, there a Trail called Follow the Dog thats supposed to be excellent also Giant are building some new sections. I was on a ride up at Penmachno with a bunch of guys from the Midlands so Cannock is there local trail. If any of you want to go I can ask them to guide us round and see some cheeky bits.
