My other half and her cousin walked up Snowdon yesterday and a few times they were passed by MTBers coming down during the voluntary ban period.
I dont know how well advertised this ban is, I saw a poster in CyB yesterday and its on the Snowdonia website and other various forums.
I drove up as far as the gate where the mountain path starts to pick em up because her cousin had blisters from hell and was struggling, and on the two gates I had to go through there were no signs informing bikers of this.
I think that most riders do know about the ban and choose to ignore it. If riders carry on doing it in the ban period we will run the risk of being thrown off the mountain full stop.
I was waiting there with my bike on the roof of the car and a few walkers stopped and asked me about the ban and the fact they saw riders up there. We all know that the relationship between walkers and MTBers isnt rosey, and like or not we have to keep in their good books when it comes to riding up Snowdon.
There is only 4 days to push before the ban is lifted and you can ride up and down all day.

I totally agree martin. Many days in the summer whilest i was walking up with my dog, mtbers have been flying down b4 5pm! There was a group of atleast 20 french guys hammering it down rangers on their full on dh bikes one day in june! Totally taking the p@?s! The only signs that i know of are the one by the wooden gate as u turn left off the tarmac on 2 llanberis path, 2 on gates at pen y pass, and id guess there s 1 in rhyd ddu and at the start of rangers. Like martin said. Come on guys dont ruin it 4 us

I know that the mtn rescue team at llanberis and the wardens are totally p.d off with mtber. They will stop u if they see you. on the other hand they ll thank u if they see that u' ve stick 2 the ban. A friend of mine who s on mt rescue llanberis said the easies option is 2 ban mtbers completely! Start PUSHING up at 4ish. By the time u are ready 2 head bk down it s well after 5. Or get out of bed and get down b4 10. U ll b down in 15-30 mins. Unless ur steve peate, who made it down in under 9mins. Mentalis

Maybe its something that we can promote for next year??
see if we can get some posters made with all the info on and arrange with the National park to get them up all over??
I like the odd ride up there and dont want to loose it.

Nah mate not today, just giving my bike a little TLC after a couple of days of hammering. Need to get a ne back tyre, not sure what yet. Nipping to revo's in Bangor later.
I have just spoken to The National Park Guy's and i have a number of a Lady that deals with it all. I would like to push this for next year, got 6 months to sort it. Theres not a lot we can do as a forum, but i dont mind throwing a few quid at it to get some forum / snowdon ban realated posters knocked up.

That s where im going now 2 revolution 2 get my bike. I heard bout ur tyre. Gutted. Try the conti vertical pro. I abuse these totally and ive only had 2 change 2 on the rear in 2 or 3 yrs. And that was after the quarry. Ask matt what he thinks in the shop. Definately rate these. They have that cevlar side wall so quite tough. My mate uses maxxis minions, really tough but not easy 2 pedal with. Any thing i can do 2 help with snowdon give me a shout. Ill b more than willing.

I admire the stance your taking Martin, it only takes a few MTB'ers to ruin it for the rest of us perhaps an email to the mags and these guys www.ctc.org.uk/ may help our cause and show that the majority of mtbers are responsible. Unlike a lot of walkers, who insist on walking down designated single track meant for mountain bikes only.

I thought the whole point of the agreement was to avoid conflict between mountain bikers and walkers due to how busy the mountain gets in the summer. At the beginning and end of the agreement period it's quiet in the week so why a blanket ban. The volume of walkers on the Rangers or Rhyd Ddu is minute compared to that on the Llanberis path or those from Pen y Pass and therefore there is IMO no need to limit their use at all.
I'll be pushing up the Llanberis and coming down the Rangers on Sunday and I doubt I'll meet more than 30 walkers all the way down to the Bwlch Y Groes turning.

Are you going after 5?
At one point they wanted us off the mountain full stop, then this agreement came along, somethings better than nothing. A small minority of MTBers are not courteous to walkers and its them who will can it for the rest of us.
