Is Afan worth the drive?

Hey everyone,

I'm coming for a quick spin through Wales to do some riding next week and was thinking of going down south to afan forest as it looks really nice. Its going to take me over 4hrs to get there which is 4hrs I could be riding :-)

So just curious if anyone here had ridden down there and can offer a comparison? I like the idea of nice flowing tracks and technical terrain to have some fun on. I dont mind climbing hills if I'm being rewarded.... If there is comparable terrain up north then I won't bother and I'll go down next time .

Yeah Afan is good and has everything you just said you wanted in a trail. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

TBH, If you're on a tight schedule and your only going to be based in the North then there's nothing at Afan that you couldn't get at Coed-Y-Brenin.
I'm probably going to be available on Fri 21st all day not got any plans yet so might try and organise something.

I'd agree with iggy. But Afan is good but u need at least a full weekend there.

Have to agree too. If you're planning of doing Afan then you need to dedicate a full weekend to it.

We went a couple of months ago, stayed over for 3 nights and had a blast. The pictures and report can be seen here, and as you can see we had a great weekend

But if you're pushed for time, then you might aswell stay up north. If you let us know what dates you're thinking of coming up then I'm sure there will be a few aople about to show you around.

Also, do you have transport or are you using public transport, as this could determine where you ride.

Hey guys thanks again for the quick replies. I'll be driving up early on the 19th and leaving on Saturday 22nd. Hoping to sneak an early ride in on sat morning too. I'll have a car so I will be able to get around easily.
