:(After my first ride on Friday doing the beast at cyb I Cleaned my bike in the dark the other night, anyway went to give it a another polish today and to my horror noticed a load scratches down the non drive side of my top tube and some bigger deeper ones on the top of the swing arm on drive side , I would of thought the paint would be tougher than this so other than covering the whole frame in copter tape and having chain guards on top & bottom of the swing arms I would like to know if there is a hard lacquer coating I can apply. I didnt have any offs so can only think it was my pads and shorts that rubbed against my top tube and perhaps my five 10s that rubbed the swing arm as I did have quite a few pedal strikes. I'm guttted.

Been googling this and I am going the bike tape route, I was using it for cable rub....wish I had put it on vunerable areas now. I have put some Turtle wax onthe scratched areas and it looks a bit betterI already have some copter tape so I will cover the swing arms and top tube.

Had the same problem after my first ride on the my EX8 Ady was not impressed, The quality of the paint finish is not a patch on that of the Trek hard tail I had and thats from a factory paint job Give it a couple more months and it will be left with mud on it m8

Tell me about it John I was horrified, But the paint job looks the dogs bo!!ocks, the paint doesnt seem very hard and durable, If I'd scraped some rocks or had an off then I could understand it getting scratched, mad with myself for not putting more of the tape on, I will give steve a ring to see if he has any touch up paint.

Just been Googling myself and people talk about resprays taking up to 90 days to cure properly depending how the paint was dried after the respray. Just been planning my 5Spot respray&rebuild and looks like I'll have to leave the frame hanging up for a good few weeks before I even get round to helicopter taping it.

Well I need to order a new set of bushings for my 5Spot (the first new set in 5 years) so I'm going to go the whole hog with the proper decals and a new head badge. Haven't decided if I'm going to go fancy and get a proper Homer (it's what Turner owners get called) head badge made up by Jen Green www.headbadges.com/ But if the frame is going to be in storage for months it looks like my hand may be forced. Luckily I've got 3 hardtails and another full susser to ride in the mean time, plus I'm thinking about moving the 5Spot parts onto a SC Blur frame I've got lying about. I suppose the advantage of taping up/protecting a frame after you have had it resprayed is that you know all the likely places that rubbing/scratching/chipping occurs.

I have just found out where I rub the frame the hard way, wish I had the odd Blur lying around, but you have given me an idea to start a slow long running project to aquire a bike frame and other bits and start building up another a bike, a hardtail would probably help me with my skills, unless I can get hold of a rusty 5 spot...thats not worth painting. ;D

The Horst Link Spot's seem to hold their prices really well and not that many come up for sale.
Build yourself a singlespeed that way you can save on drivetrain costs also good for your fitness and an ace winter bike as you don't have to worry about washing them.

I've always liked the idea of a singlespeed for those very reasons. It really pi$$ed me off seeing all the people of all sizes burning me off on the Dyfi Enduro on singlespeeds.. There seems to me a whole movement out there of singlespeeders.

Oh there is, it get's quite addictive, going with rigid forks toughens you up a bit too. When this one is due a respray it will be orange, possibly as a powdercoat.

There seems to me a whole movement out there of singlespeeders. Martin (my mate who came on the Clwyd's forum ride and was chatting to the pony at the bottom of Keegan's Lane) converted his bike to singlespeed because he couldn't be bothered maintaining the gears. He didn't have much problem keeping up with everyone, despite having done Penmachno and Llandegla the day before and going out for a curry until about midnight ;D It helped that he had nice flat Leicestershire to get used to it on. Once you've got the hang of it I'm sure it's great.
