Andy,
In light of the other developments/work/funding in the pipeline to inter-link trails and mountain ranges into an epic multi day route. Is there anything we can do to assist/help out there?

Phase 2 of the planning/design went out to tender last week I believe it's being led by Conwy/Denbighshire council?

Brilliant Andy thats great news for the Marin and also mountain biking in the region I'm personally looking forward to many more years of riding on one of the best trails around an carnt wait for any improvements that are done Also if some time in the future we are able to help with the trail maintenance I'm sure there will be a lot of willing volunteers. I reckon it would be a great feeling to put something back in to our local trail. For the time being i guess we should leave the handy work to professionals and just carry on enjoying what the Marin has to offer and support Andy in any way we can I think this post has put a lot of peoples minds at rest and we can all ride safe in the knowledge that the Marin will be up kept in one way or another for the foreseeable future

Hi, just quick post for now to let you know that Coed y Brenin has a new Facebook page. www.facebook.com/pages/Coed-y-Brenin/136123803074740Check it out for latest news and updates. Off to meet contractors and designer on proposed new section for the MBR trail this morning and then off up to the Marin trail for meeting to liaise with contractors re felling work. So there will be diversions to arrange. Then looking at re-build designs for Marin final descents and checking that emergency repairs have been done to a good standard. More news later, will try and keep you updated more regularly.

I personally think the last descents are better than they've ever been, makes a change from the cycle path they once were. Perhaps now could be the time to have dual runs added in sections ie Black and Red, after all everything should move with the times or we wouldnt even have trail centres.

I get what you mean but in the last few weeks there has been massive water damage, random rocks have been ripped out and its rough as hell, rough is fun, but the damage done in the last few weeks has taken the flow out of some sections which before xmas were a great mix of roughness and speed.

Theres even a step down on the very last section now, its great even if it is 18"s There's a couple of bits near the end which have got really worn over the last few months and created big rocks/boulders - but people have ridden around them which has created a chicken run which is a good way to have things (like the new 'beginning of the end' at CyB, but more natural). Some of the descents need some more distinctive edging to them so you don't go straight on through the clearing at night because you couldn't see the path curving ;D

Andy really good news on the maintenance front, are you still up for a ride round on Saturday to hear your plans ? Yep, can meet at the trailhead car park at 10am Sat if anyone fancies coming along. Just for info... I was just checking the previous emergency repairs to find that one had been completely washed out again! The aforementioned 18' step down/fly off. Two riders had fallen off there as I arrived! Whilst I realise that for some people it's a great feature, not everyone has the skills to be able to ride it. It is also out of character with the rest of the trail. When you can roll everything on the rest of the trail, you don't expect a straight drop which results in your front wheel dropping and a trip over the bars. For that reason I've had to tape it off with barrier tape to avoid any further incidents. To fix it again is going to require drainage work and re opening of blocked culvert catch pits above the trail where the source of the water problem is. Also increasing the size of the culvert pipes in the trail to allow larger water flows and less chance of them blocking in future. The work needs a mini digger, three new pipes and a delivery of stone to site. Unfortunately there wasn't time to get it organised before the weekend, but hopefully with the help of the contractor I should get it sorted for Monday. I just thought I'd share this with you as an example of how it can sometimes be a lot more work than just filling in a hole. The good news is that by putting larger culvert pipes in I may be able to create a larger rollable fly off and hump further down the trail. The key word there being rollable. It's important to make these features progressive. Ie, less experienced riders can roll the feature easily but try it again and again to learn about unweighting the bike, front and rear wheel lift etc. And gain confidence to eventually put it all together to finally get some air under their tyres. For anyone that wants to meet on Saturday I'll happily explain some of these issues and we can look at some examples on the trail. While still getting a good ride in of course!

Look forward to meeting you Andy. it's that the maintenance is being carried out so promptly after the bad weathers buggered the trail up. We should have a good posse on Sat morning by the looks of it!

Great, I'll have to keep an eye on there, the marin is one of my favourite trails, particularly those last 3 descents!

wish some berms could be added on some of the tight corners on the last descents, would really add to the "flow" like you find at the trail centres down south (brechfa etc)
