Hi all,
I have a plan to get on top on Carnedd Llewellyn and ride the ridge all the way down to the bottom (as in hit Foel Fras and Drum on the way down) to the Roman road.
I've been up neighbouring Pen Y Helig Ddu this weekend on foot and thought a good way up might be by taking the water board road up to the lake (from the road out of Capel Curig, opposite the camp site in the Ogwen valley) and hitting the steep path on to the ridge between Llewellyn and Helig Ddu and going up that way? looks potentially a little hairy but not sure.
Any other suggestions?

Been up that ridge on foot, probably be a bit to much with a bike.

the section from the lake and up that rocky bit on the ridge itself will of course be a bit of a bike hike, defo not rideable! I'm just wondering if there are any alternative routes, just want a quick way up there really.

Probably cwm Eigiau would be better, that's rideable till underneath Llewellyn then big grass bank to negotiate. Also u can have a look at the ww2 crashed wreckage that's still there

ah okay. So from Conwy valley up the road (the rather long narrow windy one!) to the lake and from there up? Eigau is the lake which damn's burst?

Yeah, think that's one, the ridge u were on about its other side of that. The other way is up and down drum going back the way you came....when u thinking of doing the ride?

really don't want to go up from Drum, that would be a long long day! want to get up Llewellyn the quickest most shortest route and take in the ridge all the way down it, okay there are some ups whilst on the ridge, but largely down from what i can gather?
I'm not sure when, it would be a ride best decided on the day (weather wise) due to the nature of it.

okay cool, thank you very much for that, and the links. I've walked it, i guess there is no real way of avoiding a hard climb, but that makes it more fun, need to prep up a bit more fitness before this. Up and back down the same way it is then! It was the Drum/Foel Fras climb i was avoiding, but there's always a push What is the connect between Carnedd Uchaf, Foel Grach and Carnedd Llewellyn like, in comparrison to the Drum/foel fras?

The terrain is not that bad in comparison to the slog up to Foel fras. Theres a little climb up to Foel Grach and the final slog to CL is not rideable due to the rocky ground. Its worth keeping a few options open for the descent. TBH I've never gone back down the same way, but I can imagine the forearms will be aching dropping from Foel fras to Drum My previous first link shows the descent to cwm eigiau and you can also drop onto the Dulyn track as well. A few of us have dropped onto the track to the west after Foel grach and headed towards Drosgl, moel winion and aber falls. Here's that one northwalesmtb.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ridedays&action=display&thread=3123
