Right, I'm getting in an early shout for a fat fighters club to offer a bit of support and a focal point for the inevitable 'I must lose some weight this year' new year resolutions.
By my reckoning it's twenty weeks from the start of the year to the Tour of the Taverns ride in May and I'm looking to shed at least a stone and a half by then. This works out at about a pound a week which should be do-able.
If anyone wants to join me I'm quite happy to build a spreadsheet to monitor progress. Members of the club could PM me their weight loss/gain at the end of each week/fortnight and I'll post up the running totals in terms of percentage body weight lost/gained, which I think is the best measure of progress.
It would also give us somewhere to post up our 'I've lost half a stone and I'm ten minutes quicker round the Marin' type posts as well as any encouragement and tips for fellow members.
So, wadda ya think? Anyone fancy it?

Excellent idea, although you can't have my weight till Jan 2nd as I plan on consuming an extraodinary amount of empty calories during the next 10 days/nights....... I may even have a bit of food too!

Hey Oggy !!! You'll need all that extra weight if you're downhilling; but you'll feel it pushing back up without an uplift. Are you getting to old for XC riding? No, still be riding the xc, ive actually been secret training you have to be fitter than you think for DH, after a few runs down Nant G your body is in a far worse state than an all day XC Epic Ps Are you saying im a lard arse ;D

Count me in for lose the lard club, stone and a half should get me shooting up those hills ;D ;D I'm not bothered about shooting up 'em but it would be nice to reach the top without the usual blurred vision, blood pounding in the ears and overwhelming urge to curl up at the side of the trail and cry!!

Right then!!
Hauled my fat arse onto the bathroom scales and after much moaning and groaning they finally setled on fifteen stone dead. Which by my reckoning is 210lbs or 95.25kg.......which is actually better than I'd anticipated after the excesses of the last couple of weeks. ;-)
So I've decided that my target is to shed ten percent of my body weight in time for the 'tour of the taverns' weekend in May. Which gives me just under twenty weeks and works out at a smige under half a kilo a week......wish me luck :-)

I'm 5'10" which according to a goverment web site means I'm currently OBESE!!!! If I hit my target I'll have dropped down to being 'overweight'....to get back below that I need to hit 12st 4lbs, which means losing 2st 10lbs or approx 2lbs a week......which might be do-able. May as well aim high....or in this case low

Ok so after reading the last post I weighed myself and to my surprise I weigh a lot less than I thought which is 13st 11lb or in todays money is 82.26 kg so my target weight is 12st 7lb so I need to lose 18lbs or 8.89kg. So if I just get out on my roadie and go back to circuits and cut out snacking and stop drinking wine and stick to the odd pint, It should be easily achievable, as I am building a singlespeed pub bike I need to put it to good use
